Individual Stats

These are the five core attributes — or statistics, AKA stats — for player characters in Coterie. Typically, these range from -3 to +3, but can go up to ±4–5 for very old vampires or through certain buffing Powers. They are as follows:

Blood

The Vitae that animates your body. Blood is the raw supernatural power coursing through your undead flesh; the terrible speed that lets you chase prey, the unnatural strength that lets you tear through obstacles, and the vampiric essence that fuels your sorceries. When you move with inhuman grace, when you hunt like the apex predator you've become, or when you channel the Beast's physical gifts, you're drawing on Blood.

Used for: Supernatural physicality, hunting and feeding, the Blood Sorcery Discipline, combat prowess, preternatural reflexes

Shadow

The darkness you inhabit and command. Shadow is your ability to move unseen, to deceive and misdirect, to become the thing that hides behind the shower curtain. It's the lies that slip off your tongue, the way you melt into darkness, the subtle manipulation that leaves no fingerprints. Whether you're cloaking yourself with mundane stealth or wrapping yourself in literal shadows through Oblivion, you're using Shadow.

Used for: Stealth and sneaking, deception and lies, misdirection, the Oblivion Discipline, going unnoticed

Resolve

Your iron will. Resolve is the control that keeps the Beast caged, the fortitude that lets you endure pain and atrocities without flinching, the sheer bloody-mindedness that holds you together when everything's falling apart. It's what separates you from the mindless Wights — the ability to say "no" to Frenzy, to domination, to despair.

Used for: Resisting supernatural influence, maintaining self-control, enduring hardship, commanding the Beast, sheer determination

Demeanor

Your force of personality. Demeanor is the social impact you have on others. It's the way you fill a room, command attention, inspire loyalty or terror. It doesn't matter if you're a silver-tongued seducer or a brutal warlord from Al Qolnidar; what matters is that when you speak, people listen. Whether you're charming your way past a doorman or putting the fear of god into a rival, your Demeanor makes it happen.

Used for: Most social interactions; charm, intimidation, seduction, inspiration, leadership, trash-talking online, making people believe you

Wits

Your sharpness and mental acuity. Wits is your ability to think on your feet, to notice what others miss, to piece together clues and solve problems in real-time. It's the strength and clarity of mind that decades of unlife hone to a razor's edge and that Fledglings desperately need to survive their first years in the dark. When you read a room, track a target, or figure out the truth, you're using Wits.

Used for: Perception and awareness, quick thinking, problem-solving, investigation, memory and recall
