What Are You?¶
You were Embraced because something about the way you perceive the world caught a Malkavian's attention. Maybe you interpreted dreams that came true, read people with freakish accuracy, or pursued questions so obsessively that you forgot to eat for days. The Clan of the Moon looks for mortals who already operate on a slightly different wavelength; people with piercing empathy, uncanny intuition, or a mind that simply works differently from everyone else's. Your sire saw potential in that, and the Embrace cranked it up to eleven.
Every Malkavian carries a supernatural affliction that warps their perception, emotions, and/or behavior. It might amplify something that was already there, or it might be entirely new. Either way, it's yours now, permanently woven into your Blood. The upside is genuine insight that other Kindred just can't replicate. You notice things they miss, sense dangers they can't feel, have meaningful and productive conversations with inanimate objects or corpses, and occasionally just know things you have no business knowing. Some Malkavians whisper about a shared psychic network connecting the entire Clan; a kind of static hum beneath conscious thought. Whether that's real or just another symptom depends on who you ask, what time of night it is, and whether you remembered to use words or not.
The cost is your stability. The same blood that sharpens your perception also destabilizes it. When the Beast presses in, your affliction flares; the world tilts, your senses betray you, and your mind stops cooperating. Other Kindred are never fully comfortable around you, and honestly, you can't always blame them. Your flashes of insight come along with episodes that can be frightening for everyone in the room, yourself included.

Bane: Fractured Perception¶
At character creation, work with your Storyteller to define your supernatural affliction; how the Blood has reshaped your mind, your senses, or your emotional landscape. This isn't a clinical diagnosis, it's a curse that amplifies, distorts, or creates something unique to you.
When the Beast presses in (at Hunger 4+, during Frenzy, after a 6- to Stay Chill, under intense supernatural pressure, etc.) your affliction flares. Take a penalty equal to your Blood Potency (minimum 1) to Discern Vibes and Catch the Scent rolls until the episode passes (when the pressure eases or the scene ends). While active, the Storyteller may lie to your face to introduce one false detail per episode that your character perceives as true but isn't. You won't know which one.
Compulsion: Delusion¶
When you catch a detail, pattern, or inconsistency that others overlook, you become convinced it's the most important thing happening right now and feel compelled to pursue it immediately, regardless of timing or consequence.
Until you investigate the thread to your satisfaction or the scene ends, take an Ongoing penalty equal to your Blood Potency (minimum 1) to all rolls not dedicated to chasing the revelation. Whether the insight is genuine or a trick of your fractured perception is anyone's guess, including yours.
Clan Perks¶
You get 2 unique abilities:
The Cobweb: Once per session, you receive a flash of insight from the psychic network connecting all Malkavians (whether or not people believe it's real is a moot point). You may ask the Storyteller a single yes-or-no question about anything in the past, present, or imminent future. The answer is always truthful but arrives filtered through your affliction; expect visions, whispers, or sensations rather than clear words.
Infectious Insight: When you share information gained from Discern Vibes or Catch the Scent with a Coterie member and they act on it, they gain +1 Forward. Your perception is unconventional, but those who choose to trust you find it eerily reliable.
Clan Experience¶
Once each per session, gain +1 XP when you...
- Uncover something hidden using your unique perception; anything buried, concealed, or deliberately obscured counts
- Suffer meaningful consequences from your affliction — social, physical, or otherwise — without trying to hide what you are
- Provide insight to your Coterie that meaningfully changes the course of their plans or actions
