Hecata

Death isn't the end of anything. It's a phone line, and you've got it on speed dial.

What Are You?

You were Embraced into a family. A sprawling, centuries-old dynasty that happens to include the dead among its active members. The Hecata are a patchwork of necromantic bloodlines bound together by shared obsession: understanding death, commanding it, and profiting from both. Your sire chose you because you had the right temperament; pragmatic, morbid, maybe a little too comfortable around corpses. Many Hecata are pulled from the Clan's own mortal relatives, guilt-tripped, deceived, and obligated into service before they even understand what's happening.

What you bring to the table is something no other Clan can quite match: the dead talk to you. Ghosts, corpses, spirits — the Hecata can interrogate them, command them, even send them out as spies. That kind of access to secrets that people assumed were safely buried makes the Clan very useful and very wealthy. Other Kindred often find the whole thing distasteful, but they still come knocking when they need a body silenced permanently or a long-dead witness dragged back to testify. The Hecata are happy to help... for a price.

The cost is in the feeding. Where other vampires deliver ecstasy with their bite, yours delivers agony. Your Kiss is pure pain; victims scream, thrash, and fight unless you pin them down or knock them out first. Willing donors exist, but even they have to steel themselves against it. Feeding is never subtle and never pleasant, meaning every meal is a logistical nightmare on top of a moral one.

Disciplines

Choose 2 to start: Auspex | Fortitude | Oblivion

Bane: Agonizing Kiss

When you Feed from a living vessel, your Kiss delivers searing pain instead of ecstasy. Conscious and unrestrained vessels scream, thrash, and resist. Take a penalty equal to your Blood Potency (minimum 1) to Feed rolls unless the vessel is restrained, unconscious, or willing despite the pain. Regardless of circumstances, every living vessel you Feed from suffers 1 Superficial Harm.

Compulsion: Morbidity

When you encounter death, dying, or the boundary between it and life, you feel an irresistible urge to move something across that threshold, to end something living or revive something dead, literally (an entity) or figuratively (an object, an idea, or a conversation point).

Until you transform something's state (kill, resurrect, conclude, rekindle — the scale doesn't matter, only the crossing) or the scene ends, take an Ongoing penalty equal to your Blood Potency (minimum 1) to all rolls not dedicated to enabling that transformation.

Clan Perks

You get 2 unique abilities:

Death's Confidant: When you encounter a corpse or sense a ghost's presence, you can ask the dead one question and receive a truthful answer without rolling. The response may be cryptic, fragmented, or colored by the dead's own limited perspective. Anything beyond a single question requires Discipline use.

Wages of Pain: When you successfully Feed from a living vessel, slake 1 additional Hunger. Your Kiss is agony, but agony runs deep. This Perk allows you to drop below the Hunger floor imposed by high Blood Potency levels.

Clan Experience

Once each per session, gain +1 XP when you...

  • Uncover a meaningful secret by consulting the dead or studying a corpse
  • Clean up a dangerous mess — dispose of bodies, destroy evidence, or silence a Masquerade breach — that your Coterie created
  • Fulfill an obligation to your mortal family at personal cost or inconvenience
