Devorari

You're starving for something no one can see. Luckily, everyone you've ever touched has plenty to spare.

What Are You?

Nobody knows precisely what you are or how you work, including you. You might have been born this way, awakened through a ritual, cursed by something ancient, or simply changed one day with no explanation. You are not Kindred. You carry no lineage from Caine, no Beast clawing at your insides, no connection to the political machinations of vampire society. What you are is something older and stranger; a creature that exists in the folklore of nearly every culture on Earth under a thousand different names: Succubi and incubi. Kitsune. Huli jing. Yakshini. The Bebarlangs. The Evil Eye. Every civilization since humanity first crawled out of the mud and huddled around a fire has a story about something that drains the life force from the living through proximity or touch. You're one of those stories, walking around in business casual and carrying a smartphone.

You consume ephemera rather than blood; the raw emotional and psychic energy that radiates from all beings. Skin-to-skin contact is the primary channel; a lingering touch, an embrace, an intimate encounter. Your prey feels lethargic afterward, like the saturation has been turned down on everything. Most assume they're just having a bummer of a day. The Kindred with whom you share a Coterie can't sustain you (they have no life force to give), can't Feed from you (your Vitae provides no nourishment), but you can do something invaluable for them: you can manipulate a mortal's emotional state before they Feed, turning prey Choleric, Sanguine, Melancholic, or Phlegmatic on demand. You're also the only member of the Coterie who can drain ghosts and spirits, which makes you either useful or highly unsettling depending upon the context.

The cost is the distance. Every person you touch loses something, and the more frequently you feed from someone, the worse it gets. You leave a trail of exhausted friends, hollowed-out lovers, and relationships that wither for reasons nobody can articulate. You walk in daylight, you look perfectly human, and you'll stay young as long as you keep feeding... but you can't eat, you can't drink, and the closest you'll ever get to another person is the moment you're taking something from them forever.

Important Note

Devorari use all the same Basic Moves as everyone else except Blush of Life, but treat any mention of blood as ephemera instead, and any Harm your victims take is purely coincidental — when you Feed, you usually don't hurt your prey unless something goes horribly wrong. You can still use Blood Surges, but the Beast holds no power over you whatsoever, and you never Frenzy unless forced by a Discipline Power.

Disciplines

You start with exclusive access to Psychotrophia. Choose 1 additional: Auspex | Presence

Bane: The Wasting

When you Feed from the same mortal more than once, start a 6-segment Wasting Clock for them. Each time you drain them, advance the Clock by a number of segments equal to 1 + your Blood Potency. At BP 0, that's a gentle tick of 1 per feeding; at BP 5, a single slurp of ephemera fills the entire Clock at once. Wasting Clocks fade at a rate of 1 segment per week of no contact.

As the Clock fills, the Storyteller may narrate escalating deterioration: mild fatigue at first, then chronic exhaustion, personality changes, memory loss, and worse. When a Wasting Clock fills completely, the mortal's decline becomes impossible to hide — they're hospitalized, investigated, or their condition is noticed by someone you don't want asking questions.

Compulsion: Feelings Fixation

When you sense intense emotion from someone nearby, you feel an overwhelming pull to get closer, to touch them, to taste whatever it is they're radiating.

Until you make prolonged contact to Feed from the source of the emotion or the scene ends, take an Ongoing penalty equal to your Blood Potency to all rolls that aren't directly working toward reaching them. The stronger you become, the harder the pull is to resist.

Devorari Perks

You get 2 unique abilities:

Psychic Predator: You have no Beast, no Predator Type, and you never consume blood. You can walk in daylight, age only if you stop feeding, and pass as human without effort. However, you cannot eat nor drink, and cannot use Blush of Life. You can still use the other Basic Moves (replacing blood with ephemera) and Blood Surge, but you cannot enter a Frenzy unless forced into one by certain Discipline Powers. Whenever any roll calls for +Blood, you may roll +Wits instead. At 5 Hunger, you begin to literally fade. Your presence becomes forgettable, your features indistinct, your voice easy to talk over. You lose access to your Disciplines and have Disadvantage on all rolls except Feed until you consume ephemera.

Sanguine Sommelier: When you Influence a mortal's emotional state through conversation, intimidation, seduction, or comfort, you can shift their Blood Resonance to match the emotion you're cultivating. This takes a few minutes of sustained interaction. When a Kindred subsequently Feeds from that mortal, the Resonance you set is what they get.
