Discipline Moves¶
Disciplines are vampiric abilities, preternatural or magical, organized into categories. Each character has access to specific Disciplines based on their Playbook and Predator Type, but can learn other Disciplines with an extra XP cost. Discipline Powers beyond the first ones selected at character creation will cost XP equal to 1 + their level (e.g., only 2 XP for a level 1 Power, but 6 XP for a level 5 Power).
The Four Flavors¶
There are only four types of Powers in Coterie, each of which is used differently. They are as follows:
- Discipline Perks (granted for free when you unlock a Discipline, usually no rolls required)
- Passive Powers (purchased with XP, provide narrative permission to do cool stuff, usually no rolls required)
- Active Powers (purchased with XP, may require rolls + Hunger Checks)
- Project Powers (unlocked by learning them in-game without XP, big effects, take time, usually gnarly)
- 4 kinds: Blood Sorcery Rituals, Oblivion Ceremonies, Daimonion Sacraments, & Thin-Blood Alchemy Formulae
- Require preparation, components, & time
- May use Clocks to track progress
- Higher Hunger cost or automatic Hunger gain
